Sakushi Type 76 - Modernized

About half a year ago I got commissioned to draw this aesthetically pleasing Galil derived rifle platform, the Sakushi Military Industries Type 76. It’s the standard military rifle of Sakushi, a fictional Ainuic nation, part of the Tiandi worldbuilding community whose work can be found at https://tiandi.miraheze.org/wiki/Main_Page

It’s a 5.56x45mm select fire assault rifle, with combined parts of an AK74, T65, K2, RK62 and Galil. In this massive platform modernization upgrade a multitude of parts and attachments got added, as well as a .30 caliber SMG variant.

My client was kind enough to let me texture the whole thing, front to back. Kind enough, because it was part of the original plan, and it was the first time that I really hand textured stuff so it wasn’t quickly done either. But holy farts I learned a lot. Playing around with dirty overlays, layer blend modes, what different materials actually look like and the kind of reflections and damage wear they have. It’s definitely been a journey, and I loved all of it.

I really feel like this is what I needed to take my designs to the next level, and I hope to get faster at it to give a quick render pass to more of my work, to really make it come to life.
