This SMG, named Scarab, was one of the first projects I made with Procreate. It was also the first project where I tried to shade / render everything myself, trying out shadows and highlights along the way. It’s definitely far from perfect, but I have learned a lot from it.
In terms of design, it started out by giving myself 5 minutes, one brush and three colors. I repeated this little exercise over and over again. I then picked the silhouette that spoke to me the most and worked it out. First with a line drawing, then the rendering. This isn’t my usual workflow, but I wanted to try something different.
The gun itself is a roller delayed blowback SMG, with some definite MP5 influences and a Russian feel to it. I can name some of the features but the only thing worth noting is that you can do the HK slap, although inverted.
