Leartes Studios: Plasma Cutter Knife

A couple of months ago Leartes Studios asked me if I wanted to help create a cyberpunk style melee weapons set. After some consideration due to my comfort zone telling me I can’t do anything but firearms, I accepted the challenge and went for it.
.
I’m not gonna lie, I had an absolute blast designing the melee weapons. It also was great to be able to implement the lessons learned from the Wardog Collective art test, and it really paid off.
I made a couple of quick sketches (second image) to throw out three different ideas for this futuristic knife. The top one was the winner, having a plasma stream cutting edge. The second one would have a thermal blade, quickly heating up to create some nasty wounds. And the third one has a CO2 cylinder in it, and stabbing someone would result in the poor bastard’s insides blowing up and freezing. The last idea was awesome and later got used for a sword design I’ll post soon.
.
Here’s the description of the knife:
‘The Scalpel’ got its nickname due to the integrated plasma cutter. The blade itself is a dangerous piece of equipment on its own, but if you really want to mess up someone you turn on the plasma stream. I’ve read reports of soldiers using it to burn wounds shut in critical situations, so I guess that’s a handy bonus!
The removable solid-state battery integrated in the grip handle provides a little over 5 minutes of continuous plasma stream, so use it only when needed! Using the knife is intuitive; it has an on/off button on both sides which you have to hold down for a few seconds, and once it’s on you use the trigger to initiate the plasma stream. The blade also comes with a serrated edge on the top, and a wire cutter on the bottom.
